Lamphun & Lampang Lanna Heritage Day Tour
Full Day
Explore Lamphun · Lampang on a private full day program from Chiang Mai.
Itinerary
08.30 Hrs. Pick up from your hotel lobby and depart to Lamphun Town along picturesque mountain roads. Visit Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, whose main chedi is topped with a nine-tiered gold umbrella weighing almost 6.5 kilograms; its courtyard holds a large bronze gong believed to be the largest in the world.
Next, visit Wat Ku Kut (Chamadevi Temple), built in 1150 when Lamphun was the capital of the Mon Dvaravati Kingdom of Hariphunchai. Its five-level main chedi holds twelve Buddha images in blessing postures on each level. Depart for Lampang Town (1-hour drive).
Lunch is provided at a local restaurant.
Explore Lampang by colourful horse carriage, touring the city centre past northern Thai and Burmese-style houses. Continue to Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao, where the Emerald Buddha was enshrined for 32 years (1436-1468 AD); its square hall near the chedi is decorated with Burmese-style glass mosaic and houses a Mandalay-style Buddha image.
On the way, visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, Northern Thailand’s finest temple and the best example of wooden Lanna-style architecture. Afterwards, return to Chiang Mai.
